Here at safehands it is our top priority to learn all information about a child before they start the setting to ensure all their individual needs are met. we aim to work in partnership with parents where a child has a medical or additional need. we have a Special Educational Needs Co Ordinator (SENCO) in place on site, this allocated person has had access to training and courses to further develop their knowledge.
When a child stars the nursery we complete abase line assesment this enables us to determine the childs abilities, the childs key person will then plan and assess the childs next steps in line with the early years foundation stage.
We have a very well established key person system in place, this is where each member of staff have a number of key children who the observe plan for and help them progress in their development.
The childs progress is regularly monitored and reviewed by the childs key person by completing half termly and termly progress checks, we also complete 2 year progress checks the term befor the childs 3rd birthday.
If a staff member has a concern regarding a childs development they will inform and share their concerns with the settings (SENCO) who will then arrange a meeting with the childs parents or carers to discuss further, the SENCO along with the childs parents/ carers will put a learning journey individual education plan (LJIEP) in place to support the child, we would also use an earlly years developmental journal which breaks down the ages and stages and helps to set appropriate and achieveable next steps for the childs development.
Following on from this we as a setting work closely with other proffecionals such as childrens services, speech and language therapist (SALT), occupational therapist, health visitors etc. we hold team around the family (TAF) meetings with the childs parents to discuss progress and set goals.
If We have children in our setting that require support with a medical need the childs key person and all other staff members will recieve quality inhouse or profecionaltraining.
Any medication brought onto the premesis must be prescribed by a doctor or other medical proffecional. any information leaflets should accompany medication.
an individual medical comcent form will be completed by the parents for each individual medication this must detail instructions as to dosage and administration times also reason for administration, this will then be signed by the parent and a member of who recieves the medication. two members of staff will be present at all times and will provide a counter signature when adminestering medicine.
Children with on going medication that need to be kept on the premisis will have a corrisponding care plan in place this will detail:
- Childs details including medical condition
- emergency contacts (Parents/GP)
- medication and storage details
- signs and symptons to look for
- dosage to be given
- emergency procedure to follow.
The Setting is situated in the old market town of Penrith. we are near to the M6 motorway,A66 and A6 which makes the setting ideal for commuters.we have a car park that is shared with 3 resident flats, we have 8 reserved parking spaces for parents and staff.
Parents and carers are able to access the setting by ringing the doorbell and letting themselves into the vestibule a member of staff will then greet them at the door and allow them into the nursery. we encougage parents to take their children into the appropriate room, sign the attendance register when dropping off and collecting and to pass over any messages or information that are relevent to the childs day. the setting is mainly on one level.the setting has 2 rooms, a baby room for ages 0-2 in which we can take 12 children and a large 2s to schools room which takes upto 35 children. the setting has lights throughout and numerous windows to allow in natural light and ventilation.
