New Start

 

New Start courses cover a wide range of subjects:

  • ‘Confidence and Communication’ includes: building confidence; communicating thoughts and feelings. 

  • ‘Customer Service’ includes: dealing with customers; communication; body language. 

  •  ‘Employability’ includes: career options; preparing a CV; interview skills.

  • ‘Office Skills’ includes: using a telephone; reception duties; filing systems. 

  • ‘Health & Fitness’ includes: healthy balanced diets; exercise. 

  • ‘Computer Basics’ includes: email; spreadsheets; word processing; internet.

  • ‘Working in Adult Social Care’ includes: roles and responsibilities; values; communication; attitudes.

  • ‘Work Ready’ includes: preparing a CV; interview skills; application forms; career options; Maths and/or English qualification.

  • ‘New Direction’ includes: building confidence and self belief; improving communication skills; healthy lifestyles; getting ready for work.

Courses can be as short as 5 weeks (2 days a week up to 30 hours).

New Start courses are a way of getting the skills you need to get a job at whatever level you are working at.

• New Start courses are FREE if you are in receipt of any state benefit and you want to enter employment.

• New Start courses run throughout the year right across Cumbria.
