Newton Primary School Nursery Class

The Rabbits class are taught by Miss Davidson. Nursery children can access school 5 mornings a week from 8.50am - 11.50am. Reception children are full time from 8.50am - 3.10pm. The class has access to an outdoor area and continuous provision opportunities are provided for all. A variety of open ended and differentiated challenges are provided to meet the needs and abilties of all learners.

Nursery and Reception children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. We plan for each child's individual learning requirements, including those with special educational support or who have specific needs or disabilities. Therefore a child will be working at their level of ability irrespective of age.

Systematic Synthetic Phonics

Children are taught in a range of small phonics groups dependent on their phonics development, in line with the LCP Phonics programme. Phonics are integrated into Literacy sessions and across the curriculum wherever possible.

Reading Scheme

We follow the Oxford Reading Scheme and children progress through the Stages as their reading skills develop. When children have fulfilled the reading scheme a selection of free reading books are available.
