Selside Endowed CofE Primary School
Selside School stands in beautiful countryside, just outside the market town of Kendal. There has been a school on the current site in Selside for over two hundred years. Indeed, parts of the original school building still remain, including an interesting slate inscription, which says 'The school was built by subscription of the Land Owners in the Chapelry of Selside in 1793'. It was then rebuilt in 1897 after a fire destroyed the original wooden structure. Originally, the school was built to serve the scattered local farming communities.
At Selside, all children are treated as individuals and taught in small class groups and it is this personalised approach that allows children to enjoy learning and achieve success. We believe that children thrive in this small-scale family environment where they can develop a sense of both personal and communal responsibility.
We all work very hard to provide an outstanding learning environment - where you will find teachers who are passionate about great teaching and children who are enthused by learning. Our curriculum is innovative, challenging and fun. It is taught through exciting projects both inside and outside of the classroom. Our school is surrounding by the most amazing countryside where children can take part in lots of outdoor activities, and this helps to develop confidence, self-esteem and motivation.
We are a vibrant and friendly small school, providing a creative and nurturing environment where children can flourish. We enjoy involving parents and the wider community in the life of the school as much as we can and we are proud of the many memorable learning experiences we provide together.

Children may have special educational needs throughout, or at any time during their school career. The special educational need may be in one or more areas of the curriculum. Teachers take into account in their planning a child’s special educational needs and the provision made therefore enables them to participate effectively in all curriculum and assessment activities, in addition to broader aspects of school life.
The aim of our school is to provide a broad and well-balanced curriculum for all the children in our care. Using the National Curriculum as our starting point we plan to meet the specific needs of each child, setting appropriate learning challenges, and responding to the diverse needs of the children.
