Sandside Lodge School
Sandside Lodge is a special school catering for 80 pupils aged between two and a half and nineteen years of age. All pupils have a statement of Special Educational Need (SEN). All pupils are statemented as having severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties.
There are two distinct populations in the school; primary aged pupils have generally higher and more complex needs. Many pupils join Sandside from mainstream schools at year 7. We therefore have a proportionally more able Upper School. Currently, about a quarter of the school is in the 6th Form.
The school is supported by a physiotherapist and speech therapist for two days a week and ongoing contact with a school nurse. The school is also supported by an occupational therapist and social care teams as required.
Our school governors meet at least five times a year. We have four parent governors, as well as governors appointed by the county council and representatives from the voluntary sector, business and the school staff.
Driving forces in the school are independence and community. Much of the teaching and learning takes place in the local community with the pupils being taught that they have a role, a place and a voice in all things they do.
