Deaf and Hearing Impaired - Parents

SEND Teaching Support Team (SEND TST)  Deaf/Hearing Impaired are committed to offering support to both the children and families of the deaf children and young people we are involved with from ages 0-25 - as appropriate..

The role that parents and carers play is fundamental to the development of their child. We aim to work in partnership with children and their families and carers to promote effective communication and in turn inclusive education.

SEND TST work closely with the audiology departments in Cumbria to ensure that our service is offered to parents following a diagnosis of permanent hearing loss.

Referrals come to our service via Health, schools and settings. Referrals are only accepted with parent/carer consent.

We work collaboratively with many organisations supporting deaf children and young people e.g.  Schools and Settings, Health, charitable organisations, Inspira, Parent Partnership.

The National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) is a key organisation in providing information for parents/carers. It is free to join. The family support part of the website offers information on topics such as:
