When Your Child is Identified with Special Educational Needs

When an Early Years Practitioner has identified that your child needs extra help and support, a discussion will take place with the SENCO (special educational needs co-ordinator) in your child's school/setting.  You should be informed at an early stage and your knowledge and views taken into account in planning any support for your child.  The needs of the child are normally achieved through the teacher's/practitioner's knowledge and observations of a child's strengths, skills and abilities.  If it is decided that your child needs help beyond that which is normally available, or your child needs interventions that are additional to and different from those normally available, or your child's needs interventions that are additional to and different from those normally provided as part of the EYFS, the school/setting may refer a child by completing a 'SEND Early Help Assessment Form' and submitting this to the SEND team or the Early Years and Childcare Team District office for additional guidance and support.
