An independent specialist day and residential college for students aged 19-25 with a broad range of complex low-incidence needs including learning, physical, sensory and behavioural disabilities.
The college has a fully accessible site with an extensive range of facilities including specialist teaching and personal care environments, IT suite and life skills room, sensory room and media suite, hydrotherapy pool, swimming pool, inclusive fitness suite and sports hall.
Courses are delivered on site and within the community; there is also an off-site internship programme in operation.
All of the young people at Royal College Manchester experience significant and complex communication difficulties. We offer specialist three-year courses designed to support young people with:

§ Multi-sensory impairment (MSI)
§ Severe learning difficulties (SLD)

The college has expertise in working with young people with low-incidence special needs including Autistic Spectrum Condition, Deafblindness/Multi-Sensory Impairment, Hearing or Visual Impairment with additional complex needs and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities.
The initial stages of the referral process include a visit to the site by the family, a review of their Statement or Education, Health and Care Plan and may also include a visit by Seashell to the young person in their current placement.
A multi-disciplinary assessment is undertaken on-site at Seashell and this forms the basis of our placement offer.

Individualised timetables are designed for all learners. We provide high levels of support for our students with specialist teaching and support staff, working in small class groups.
In partnership with many local employers, we are able to offer work experience opportunities for all our students and also operate off-site learning opportunities for year 3 students on our intern programme.
Seashell Trust employs a team of therapists on-site providing physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy, as required.
Learning programmes are enhanced by our Assistive Technologist who works closely with both education and therapy staff developing hardware and software solutions that address the needs of individual students.
Students can also benefit from support from our behaviour management coordinator, habilitation specialist and qualified intervenors.
