Yanwath Primary School

The school was originally a small school house and is situated on the outskirts of the hamlet of Yanwath.  It has since expanded significantly to house a hall, library, reception area and additional teaching and independent learning spaces.  The grounds are extensive and a private nursery rent a separate building. Whilst we are essentially a rural school, drawing on remote Lakeland dales, local hamlets and villages for some of our pupils, two thirds (approximately 70 children) travel from nearby Penrith.

Our ethos is to present learning as purposeful.  A clear reason for teaching something to pupils engages and challenges them and provides opportunities for them to demonstrate and own their understanding.  The process this learning takes is recorded in Learning Journey books and a completed end product, both of which provide a basis for informative assessment.  Our emphasis is on high levels of productivity (doing and thinking) and challenging questioning.
