Work and Learn at Lowther Castle: Eden Area

Right2Work, in partnership with the Lowther Castle & Gardens Trust and Ernest Cook Trust offer a supported learning environment, aiming to build resilience and character and give young people the confidence and life skills they need to live, learn, work and achieve.

The aim of this programme is to support young people and equip them with the skills essential for independent living by learning through the land. Learners will have the opportunity to rotate work in various departments; including castle shop, café, gardens, farm and administration, until skills and areas of interest are identified and developed.

Learners, with the support of a job coach, will work towards an Employability Award; designed to recognise good work ethics, time management and ability to work with others. Right2Work Job Coaches will support young people to access education and employment opportunities.

The Lowther Castle and Gardens Trust are a charitable organisation that have been the driving force behind the restoration of the castle and gardens, developing the community links and programmes that have been an important part of the restoration project. In 2019, they began a partnership with the Ernest Cook Trust to create an educational and training element to the project.
