Work and Learn Youth Futures across Cumbria
Right2Work, in partnership with the Lowther Castle & Gardens Trust and Ernest Cook Trust and Cumbria Community Foundation offer a supported learning environment, aiming to build resilience and character and give young people the confidence and life skills they need to live, learn, work and achieve.
The aim of this programme is to support young people and equip them with the skills essential for independent living by learning through the land. Learners will have the opportunity to rotate work in various departments; including castle shop, café, gardens, farm and administration, until skills and areas of interest are identified and developed.
Learners, with the support of a job coach, will work towards an Employability Award; designed to recognise good work ethics, time management and ability to work with others. Right2Work Job Coaches will support young people to access education and employment opportunities.
The Lowther Castle and Gardens Trust are a charitable organisation that have been the driving force behind the restoration of the castle and gardens, developing the community links and programmes that have been an important part of the restoration project. In 2019, they began a partnership with the Ernest Cook Trust to create an educational and training element to the project.

We have launched an initiative covering most of Cumbria called Youth Futures
We appreciate that for some young people school years can be challenging and emotionally difficult and we understand that no two young people are the same in terms of their learning and development.
Our Work and Learn Team will provide schools with pastoral support, extra-curricular activities and alternative provisions to promote young people’s personal and social development and enable them to have a voice, influence and place in their communities and society as a whole. Helping them to build resilience and character and giving them the confidence and life skills they need to live, learn, work and achieve.
