Fir Ends Primary School

Fir Ends school has a friendly family atmosphere where good relationships between parents, children, teachers and the community are fostered. The school is at Smithfield and serves the parishes of Kirklinton, Hethersgill and Scaleby. Fir Ends is a Foundation School. This means that the Governing Body employs the school staff and has primary responsibility for admission arrangements. The school land and buildings are owned by the Governing Body.
Our Nursery can accommodate children from 3+ and aims to enrich and extend their learning experiences before they join the Reception class. Fir Ends welcomes children aged 4+ to 11+ years. The children are grouped in mixed ability classes according to age. We currently have 100 children on roll. At 11+ children normally transfer to William Howard Secondary School in Brampton. This is a non-selective school for 11+ to 18 years.
The school is of modern design and has four classrooms, a library and an ITC suite. The hall is used for P.E., Drama, Music, Assemblies and many other activities. All classrooms, the hall and the ICT suite have interactive whiteboards. There is a large playing field, a playground, a school garden and a wild area. An Adventure Play Trail and a quiet shelter were constructed in Summer 2011.
We offer good transport facilities from surrounding villages, meals freshly cooked on the premises and the caring, family atmosphere of a small village school. The Governors and Staff of Fir Ends School strive to offer opportunities and experiences, which will enable children to achieve their best in a happy and supportive atmosphere.

Local Offer
- Description
We, at Fir Ends School, aim to ensure that all children are able to access the National Curriculum 2014. We are committed to raising attainment and ensuring that all children are able to reach their potential within a safe and secure environment which addresses the needs of individuals.
The staff work closely with each other to ensure that they are all fully informed of the needs of each individual. Planning within class is differentiated to meet the needs of all children; further interventions will be discussed with the SENCo and arrangements made for further support to be given, where necessary. The support may be given in small groups or individual sessions which are delivered by both teaching assistants and teachers.
