Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Policy (SEND) - formally equally opportunities policy.
I aim to follow the requirements of the EYFS 2014 and the childcare Register 2012 and provide an inclusive environment for ALL children and their families. I am also required to comply with the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and the SEND Code of practice of 2014.I will:
- Regularly talk to parents/ carers about the individual needs of each child.
- Talk to children about their likes/dislikes and interests.
- Encourage parents and carers to tell me about family culture/religion and beliefs. In return I will encourage the children in my care to learn more about the cultures and religions including my own. This can be done by reading, colouring, cooking and eating foods from around the world and celebrating any special festivals.
- Encourage parents to share festivals, special occasions and anything that may enhance a child's learning and understanding.
- Provide a wide range of resources and activities which reflect the diversity of our local area and further afield. Including resources which challenge stereotypical ideas.
- Support each child through sensitive observation, regular assessment and individually planned activites to achieve their full potential.
- Provide individual support to a child depending on their needs.
- Using the 2 year old progress check to highlight if I believe a child is falling behind in any of the prime areas of learning.
- Focus on the positive things that each child can do.
- Lead by example and challenge any form of prejudice.
- Sharing information about children's learning and development and provide ideas for home learning with parents/carers as required by the EYFS.
- Seek permission to ask for support from outside agencies where appropriate.
- Attend appropriate training to ensure I have the skills and knowledge needs to support children and their families.
- Encourage children to respect each other as individuals .
- All children will have equal access to appropriate facilities and activities.
I am the designated SENCO (special educational needs co-coordinator) for my setting.
If I believe a child needs additional support, I will speak to parents and ask their permission to approach agencies who will support their child.
I have read and understood the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Policy.- Contact Name
