Langwathby CE School Nursery Class

At Langwathby School our Nursery and Reception Classes work, play and learn together. Although they work together as a unit, each class has its own class teacher and teaching assistant.  From Year 1, classes are organised in vertical groups, with children in two year groups working together.  There are opportunities for individual, group and whole class work, depending on the subject.

Nursery sessions take place every morning from 9 am until 12.  A private lunch club for Nursery aged children runs from 12 until 1 pm.  From Reception onwards the school day is from 9 am until 3.30 pm and children are supervised from 8.50 am.  The teaching time spent during a normal school week is 22.5 hours for Year 1&2 (Key Stage 1) and 23.75 hours for Years 3-6 (Key Stage 2).

Each class has its own teacher and classroom area, although children do work with other age ranges and other teachers on occasions - most often in subjects such as Games, Music or Project work.  German is taught by a specialist teacher (Mrs Pugh) in Key Stage 2.  Children work individually, in small groups, or as a class, depending on the area of study.  From Y1-6, each class has a minimum of 5 hours teaching assistant time.
