Appletree Treatment Centre Ltd

Appletree opened in 1995 with a mission to support children who have been severely traumatised to grow socially and emotionally and to cope with school. We have two special primary schools and three children's homes for girls and boys age 6 to 12 years. In the last three years we have helped 95% of our leavers to return to families and day schools before they reach teenage years. This has included successes preventing adoption breakdown. We are successful in our aims because our programmes provide and promote resilience. We remove the disruptive impact of placement change. We provide a stable environment and integrated therapeutic service and we engage our children in stimulating education.
At Appletree, Willow Bank and Fell House we help our children to change so that they can experience happiness in their lives. In order for this healing to occur they need to experience stable, nurturing and thoughtful adults upon whom they can rely. They need to be loved, respected, cared for and educated. Our clinical team helps this process in two ways. Firstly they provide direct therapeutic intervention with our children and, where appropriate, their families. All of our children have their own individual weekly therapy. Secondly they provide consultation to the teams working with the children. The aim of this consultation is to assist all the teams to make their interactions with our children facilitate positive change.
In the school environment we provide small class sizes and a high staff to child ratio. After admission, every child has an initial speech and language communication Assessment carried out by our Speech and Language Therapist. If then necessary individualised speech and language interventions are implemented.
Alongside this, we have access to Occupational Therapy services and an Independent Visitor for the children.
