North Allerdale Development Trust (NADT) Primary Early Intervention Programme (EIP)
Primary EIP is a new addition to NADTs award winning Emotional & Social wellbeing programme (EIP)
Effective early intervention works to prevent problems occurring, or to tackle them head-on before problems get worse. It also helps to foster a whole set of personal strengths and skills that prepare a child for the next stage in their life.
As a direct result of the Covid-19 pandemic we have experienced a significant increase in both requests and referrals for support for young people aged 8-12.
The reason for these requests is the continuing emerging needs concerning the emotional and social wellbeing of these young people and how it is manifesting in changes to behaviour both reactive (acting out) or internalising (becoming withdrawn).
Primary EIP supports young people aged 8-12 specifically who it is felt need extra support with their emotional and social wellbeing or may struggle with the transition to secondary school.
Primary EIPs alternative environments and activities allow the young people to feel relaxed and provides the time and space to gain a better understanding of their emotions and how to communicate what they are feeling more positively, leading to them feeling safer, happier, and more confident.
Primary EIP is led by fully qualified Youth Workers (to degree level) who also have had additional training in emotional wellbeing, safeguarding, self-harming, change & resilience, first aid, aces training and challenging behaviour.
NADT works within the parameters of the youth work code of ethics held by the institute of youth work and encompasses the National youth agency NYA curriculum. All policies and procedures are in line with national standards and UK Youth first steps & safe Places framework covering safeguarding, health & safety, HR governance and diversity/equality and inclusion.
Staff are available to contribute to EHCP and attend meetings when necessary.
