Orton CE Primary School Nursery Class

The setting for our school is idyllic in the small rural community of Orton which has church, chapel, a thriving farmers’ market, post office/village shop, hotel and great community spirit often centred around the village market hall. The area has a mix of workers linked to the agricultural industry, tourism, professionals and commuters to the nearby towns and using the ready access to the M6.

The school attracts pupils from a wide area in addition to Orton; presently they come from the villages of Tebay and Ravenstonedale as well as from the market towns of Kirkby Stephen and Appleby-in-Westmorland both of which are about 10 miles away. Children from within the catchment area may have the entitlement to free school transport. Our catchment secondary school is Kirkby Stephen Grammar School where free transport is provided, but children also choose to attend secondary schools at Appleby-in-Westmorland, Kendal, Penrith and Sedbergh.

We believe that the education of your child is a partnership between home and school. We aim to keep you closely involved and welcome your support. We have parents’ meetings each term. Two of these are individual interviews and one is usually a curriculum evening. A written report profile is sent home annually in the summer term. We aim to be helpful and approachable and encourage parents to be involved with our school. You are always welcome to make arrangements to come and see your child working or discuss issues with school staff.
