Kirkby Thore Primary School

Kirkby Thore School is a primary school maintained by the Cumbria Education Authority. It provides education for children aged between four and eleven, living in Kirkby Thore and the surrounding area. The school is situated on the outskirts of Kirkby Thore, and within easy reach of the village of Newbiggin.

Kirkby Thore School has seen many changes over the last century and the building is a mixture of old and new features, with recent developments including a Pre School and Children's Centre. There are three large classrooms, library, office, staff room, and a hall that serves as a dining area. The building is well maintained and has views of the Pennines and surrounding countryside. It is situated in unusually extensive grounds providing grassed and hard play areas, ideal spaces for football, netball, hockey and many other outdoor activities. There is an adventure playground an environmental garden area and extensive outdoor provision for early years.

The staff and Governors aim to provide a safe, caring and secure environment where children will experience a worthwhile, stimulating and exciting education. We believe that developing a close relationship between school and home is an important part of ensuring that children enjoy their time at Kirkby Thore School and we welcome any opportunity to meet parents to discuss their children's education or any other matters.
