Wigton Infant School

Wigton Infant School is a Community Infant School for children between 4 and 7 years of age. We are a two form entry, admitting up to 60 children each year. We are very proud of our school environment both inside and outside. We have extensive grounds including a large playground, a pirate play ship, climbing frames, an adventure trail and much more. Our gardens have been enhanced and we have an Oriental, English and Fantasy garden. All of these facilities are used to support learning across the curriculum through play and cross curricular work.
Our school has eight bright, spacious classrooms, two of which are used as a physical playroom and a reading room. They are organised into dedicated areas which the children access independently. We have a large hall which is used for a variety of activities, a sensory room, a soft play room, a library and reading room which are used by all pupils. We also have a community room in which we host family learning sessions. Our entrances and exits have wheelchair access.
Although children are grouped according to age, the range of ability and interest is very wide. Employees are very aware of this and structure their work accordingly. Much of the work is, therefore, done individually or in small groups. The Class Teacher is responsible for the majority of the teaching for his/her class and for the general wellbeing of each child.
We work closely as a team and all the teachers share planning, ideas and expertise so that we can ensure continuity and progression in all areas of the curriculum. We ensure that children have the opportunity for similar experiences in the programmes of study that are planned for them.
