Excellent academic achievement, a rich and varied programme of extra-curricular activities, a curriculum full of creativity and interest for every child and outstanding facilities all contribute to the enormous success of our school.
Ormsgill Primary School opened in 1999, following the amalgamation of Ormsgill Junior and Ormsgill Infant and nursery schools and is located on the Ormsgill estate at the top of Mill Bank. It is just five minutes drive away from Barrow town centre. For any children who live out of our catchment area we have a school minibus service.
Ormsgill Primary School sets high standards for all children and provides the opportunities to achieve their full potential. There is a strong emphasis on Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills. The children have access to numerous computers in class as well as using the IT suite in the community development centre.
All children are expected to take part in physical education lessons each week. The children are taught a variety of physical skills through dance, gymnastics, athletics, games and swimming. It also has school teams for football, rounders and netball, taking part in tournaments and matches against local schools.

Ormsgill Nursery & Primary School is an inclusive school and offers a wide range of provision to support all pupils, including those children with SEND. We will try to ensure that all barriers to equal access in our schools are removed or overcome. We monitor and track progress of all children so that the support provided is as effective as possible. We welcome the full engagement of parents and carers and where necessary seek support and advice from specialists outside school to ensure we develop and maintain a range of flexible resources to meet the needs of all children.

- How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?
Children's progress is monitored carefully here at Ormsgill. However, should you wish to speak to us about your child, be it academic or social/emotional, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Hubbold.

Children who need extra support may receive either one to one or small group work to help with their development.

Every child here at Ormsgill is valued individually. The curriculum will be matched by Class Teachers to ensure that every child is able to achieve their full potential.
- How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?
Regular parents evenings are held at school where you are welcome to come and find out about your child's learning. Staff are always on hand to meet with parents should there be any concerns, no matter how small you may think it is.

The school places great importance on children's well being. We know our children and families very well and are always available to help and support.

The school access all professional services offered by Cumbria County Counil and the National Health Service.

Staff have a variety of specialisms within school. Some of these are:

All children are encouraged to access at least one of the after school clubs on offer. School trips are always planned with the children in mind to ensure that every child is able to take part.

We work alongside our feeder secondary schools to ensure a smooth transition for our Year 6 pupils. Those who may need extra support can have one to one visits to make sure that they feel comfortable with the impending move.
All Year 6 children are encouraged to take part in the Learning Away Programme where children from local primary schools camp on our school site with children they will be going to secondary school with.
- How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?
Resources are allocated on a needs basis while ensuring that every child receives the best high quality teaching available.
- How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?
Through regular pupil progress meetings teaching staff meet with the senior leadership team to discuss individual children. For those not meeting expected standards extra support may be put into place. This support is monitored carefully to ensure each child is receiving the best intervention possible.
- How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?
Parents are welcome to visit the school at any time. We also hold regular drop in coffee mornings where parents are encouraged to come and chat about either their children or to look for help for themselves. We pride ourselves on our open door policy and relationships with parents.
