Hindpool Nursery School

Hindpool Nursery strives to provide care and education which is second to none, in an imaginative and progressive way for 2-4 year olds. We offer free 15 and 30 hour funded places with the option to pay for extra sessions alongside. We are open from 7.30am right through to 5.30pm

OFSTED judged us to be Outstanding on our last 2 consecutive inspections. While we try and tell you here about all the things we offer, there is nothing like coming to see for yourself and we welcome visits by you and your child.

We pride ourselves on the Outstanding start we offer to children who attend our Nursery. Our highly experienced and well-trained staff support children as they learn and develop through play in an attractive, well resourced indoor and large outdoor environment with lots of access to green space.

The children have opportunity to explore and investigate, engaging in stimulating learning experiences that are carefully planned by adults to suit their interests and abilities We use exciting play based opportunities  and during a typical day the children enjoy a great variety of experiences including: water play, mark making, exploring the Nursery woods, role play, music and singing, sand play, climbing frames and balancing activities, dressing up, healthy snacks, cars and train tracks, digging and making in the mud kitchen, play dough, stories and rhymes, number and counting puzzles.

We aim to nurture a Nursery community were every individual feels they belong  and has a belief in themselves.  

We run a before/after school club and holiday club for children aged 2-7 years right through the year with the exception of Christmas.

Description

The aim of our school is to provide a broad and well-balanced curriculum for all the children in our care. Using the Early Years Foundation Stage guidance as our starting point we plan to meet the specific needs of each child, setting appropriate learning challenges, and responding to the diverse needs of the children.
One parent of a child with SEND recently commented "Hindpool Nursery should be credited due to their excellent care towards children with additional needs. They have played a major part in speeding up A's diagnoisis and have provided the best support to both A and us as parents" - January 2016

How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

Staff at our Nursery have a wealth of experience in Early Years - staff know their key children very well and aim to cater for each child's individual needs. If you have a worry or concern we ask that you speak to your child's key worker who will be able to offer advice and guidance according to your child's specific needs.

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

All children have a key worker who is their main point of contact during the sessions.We also have additional staff there to help children with more specific needs in their play and learning

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

Staff know their key children very well and are able to tailor experiences and learning to each individual and their interests. For children with more specific additional needs, staff work with parents/carers to draw up an Individual Education Plan that is appropriate for that individual child's abilities and needs. We refer children to outside agencies (eg speech therapist, specialist advisory teacher, educational psychologist) where additional advice is required to help children progress.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

Staff are available to talk to parents and carers each and every day. We hold regular open days where parents/carers are invited in to school to discuss their child's work and progress.

For children with more specific additional needs, we hold regular "Team around the Child" meetings with parents/carers and any additional outside agencies that are involved to discuss children's progress and development against their Individual Education Plan.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

We pride ourselves on the happy and secure environment we offer to our children. Their well-being is our top priority because if a child is not feeling safe and settled they are not able to learn. Our key worker system ensures children make a close bond with an adult from the very beginning of their time with us - key workers have an initial home visit with each child in their own home to begin to form this relationship with the whole family.

What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

We work closely with a wide variety of agencies - our on-site Children's Centre are able to offer support and advice for families on a range of subjects. We also work closely with speech therapists, educational psychologists and specialist advisory teachers.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

Our staff are well-trained to cover most SEND needs - staff are experienced in and have received training in Makaton, Autism, Epi-Pens, Sensory Processing Disorder, Language & Communication Needs and of course, Safeguarding and First Aid

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

We make every effort to include ALL our children in ALL activities - special arrangements can be made according to individual need to ensure each child has equality of access.

How accessible is the setting/school/college enviroment?

Our Nursery has disabled ramps both into the building and into the playground. We also have an adjustable-height changing bed for children in nappies and a child's disabled toilet. We have special chairs for children who need additional physical support when accessing table-top activities and work closely with the CDC to ensure we meet individual needs.

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

We have close links with our feeder schools and a transition programme to ensure children make a smooth transfer. Where children have additional needs we put in place an enhanced transition programme supported by staff to meet individual children's requirements. It is important to us that children feel familiar with the new environment and new staff that they will be joining.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

We are a resourced provision Nursery - if a child has a need we will do all we can to meet it. We have excellent indoor and outdoor facilities and quiet rooms where children who need it are able to step away from a busy classroom environment and engage in a planned activity with an adult away from the distractions of the classroom. Sometimes children with similar needs are able to share resources and support staff but the needs of each individual always come first and we monitor children's progress carefully.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

Our priority at Hindpool is the children and if a child has a need we will do all we can to meet it. Where a child has a profound need we work with parents/carers and outside agencies to begin to move them towards an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) where they may receive funding from the Local Authority to help their future education but this is not a decision we can make ourselves.

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

We always involve parents/carers as much as we can in Nursery - you are your child's first and foremost educators and you know your child best. From our initial visit to meet you and your child in your home we aim to build a partnership that benefits your child's learning and development. We aim to build on this with regular meetings to update you on your child's progress and our door is always open in-between times.
