Sandside Lodge School

Sandside Lodge School is a special school catering for 80 students aged between two and nineteen who have an Education Health and Care Plan. All our students have severe learning difficulties and additional needs such as Autism, physical difficulties, hearing or vision impaired and communication differences. We cater for all needs with a highly personalised approach to learning including our own holistic curriculum which incorporates National Curriculum subjects alongside specific therapies and independent living skills. Our students are encouraged to be a part of the local community and develop their independence.

We have a wonderful new school building that we moved into in September 2019 and this has allowed us to expand the range of approaches and support we can offer our fantastic students. Our provision includes Aquatic Therapy, Rebound Therapy and we are a Move school as well as a National Autistic Society accredited school. We also have 4 trained Thrive practitioners and have 2 Music Therapists that visit once a week. In delivery of this provision we are also supported by a School Nurse, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapist and Social Care teams.

We have a governing body that meet termly. This body includes parent and staff governors as well as governors appointed by Cumbria County Council with representatives from the voluntary and business sector.
