Monkwray Junior School
Monkwray School is a Community Junior School, admitting children between the ages of 7 – 11. The usual catchment areas include Sandwith, Greenbank, Woodhouse, Kells and the Monkwray area itself. The building, which was opened in 1876, was designed on traditional lines but extensive remodelling in the late 1960’s produced a more modern interior based on semi open plan units.
This has recently been altered, partitions have been added to fully enclose classrooms. Monkwray Junior School aims to perform to the highest possible standards in all aspects, in order to develop all of its pupils to their full potential. The school will attempt to do this by:
- Having high expectations of all its pupils.
- Providing appropriate yet challenging activities.
- Being committed fully to developing every pupil.
- Providing a safe, stimulating and friendly environment.
- Having consistent, firm but fair discipline.
- Being approachable and welcoming.
In order to achieve these aims, the school will work in partnership with pupils, parents/guardians and the whole community, to empower our children and enrich their lives.

At Monkwray Junior School we provide a broad and balanced Curriculum, which is differentiated to meet individual need and abilities. Children may have Special Educational Needs (SEN) at any time throughout their school career. This policy ensures that curriculum planning and assessment takes account of the type and extent of the difficulty experienced by the pupil.
Teachers take account in their planning a pupil’s special educational needs and the provision made therefore enables them to participate effectively in all curriculum and assessment activities in addition to broader aspects of school life.
