Lakes College - West Cumbria

Lakes College is a Further Education college offering courses to anyone aged 16 and over. We offer more than 300 courses across a variety of different areas, for full time and part time study at a range of levels. Put simply, we offer choice. Wherever your passions, interests and talents lie, we’ll have an option that gets you where you need to be.

Our programmes equip you with the skills and knowledge you’ll need to get started in a wide range of different professions. We know, because we work with local employers to keep our courses relevant and up to date. If you’d rather your future involved higher education, we can prepare that for you too – bridging the gap between school and university. And if you’re itching to get into the world of work straight away, our Apprenticeships offer a practical start to your career, helping you develop skills in the real world.

We’re on the major Number 30 and Number 31 routes from Whitehaven, Maryport and Workington – buses run every 15 minutes and stop right at the college front door. The Number 600 takes the route through Greysouthern, Brigham and Cockermouth. There are also regular buses from Frizington and Thornhill. Please check the bus timetables for further information. If you’re a cyclist, you are free to use our bike racks. There are cycle paths from both Workington and Whitehaven.

Lakes College is not just a place to learn, it is also a centre for the community. We have an excellent training restaurant that is open to the public, a training hair and beauty salon that can offer luxury treatments and a recently refurbished gym.
